New shops, restaurants coming in southeast Oakland County including V’s Barbershop

The first Michigan location of V’s Barbershop, an Arizona-based chain that prides itself on capturing the old-school barbershop feel of yesteryear complete with shoeshine services, expects to open at Woodward Corners in December, spokesman Rob Myers said.

Licensed barbers dressed in classic uniforms will offer haircuts, straight-razor shaves, men’s facials, face massages, moustache and beard trims, and shoe shines. Every V’s haircut will include a hot lather neck shave, a hot towel treatment and a neck and shoulder massage.

“It will be kid-friendly as all V’s are meant to be a place where families foster great memories together,” Myers said in an email.

The shop is locally owned by Joe Valenti and Mike and James Nihem. It will feature six antique Koken barber chairs from the 1960s, multiple flat-screen televisions and iconic sports imagery on the walls.

Discounts are given to first responders, military, seniors and boys in 8th grade and younger.

The chain was founded in Phoenix in 1999 by Jim Valenzuela or Mr. V. Recalling his childhood experience getting a haircut with his dad at Nick’s Barbershop in Tucson, Valenzuela wanted a first-class barbershop experience that could be enjoyed by father, son and grandpa. Now there are more than 45 V’s across 15 states.
